Why
Wonder Woman??? |
|
|
Many
people ask me why I love Wonder Woman so much…well, there are many
reasons!
Perhaps the most obvious in terms of the external is because
physically, her character is drawn as a strong, muscular woman who has
radiating beauty, power, and self-confidence.
As a child who grew up in the 70’s, I always adored her and the
vibrant colors of her costume.
I
was proud to wear my Wonder Woman “Under-oos” and would wear a
blanket on my head to pretend I had long hair like her; I think most women
my age viewed her as their superhero!
I consciously know that as a young girl, I wished I could grow into
a woman like her even though I don’t have blue eyes and White skin!
:-)
For me, it wasn’t about wanting those details – it was about
wanting to look so fit, strong, healthy, and (hopefully) beautiful in my
own way…

As
an adult, I did more research on her, only to discover the irony between
the woman I have evolved into and the real woman behind Wonder Woman:
Diana Prince. The similarities were quite interesting; she was in the
military. I was in the
military. She resided in
Washington, D.C. I currently
reside in the D.C. metro area. She
wears the famous “Lasso of Truth;” now an older and wiser, more
confident woman, I have no fear speaking the truth of how I feel/what I
want in life/what my opinions are, etc. …even if the truth shocks
others. It is so true that
the truth shall set you free!

Diana
was given her super powers by the Gods of Olympus. Her powers
include:
Great speed & flight, the strength of the earth, the skill
& eye of the hunter, great wisdom, unity with
nature & beasts, the power to draw truth from men. She was
blessed with great beauty and a
loving heart.
The
Golden Lasso of Truth was a gift from the goddess Hestia and
forged by the god Hephaestus. The lasso gives Diana reign over the fires
of truth, forcing anyone bound by it to speak the truth. It was made
from the golden girdle of Gaea, the earth mother in Greek
Mythology, making it indestructible!
Diana
was awarded Silver Bracelets when she championed all other amazons
in a contest to win the right to be Wonder Woman. The bracelets are
indestructible (made from the shield of Zeus - The Aegis) and along with
her great speed and reflexes, are used to deflect projectiles, like
bullets and such.

Wonder Woman has had as many as 10 different
versions of her world famous costume over the last 60 years.
In February 1982, her trademark "Eagle"
emblem that adorned her bustier was replaced by the "WW"
symbol design and has been used ever since.
Wonder Woman's famous "Red White & Blue"
costume was inspired by the symbols & flags of the uniform air force
pilot Diana Trevor wore when she landed on the island.
The Red "bustier" section of her costume also
serves as armor. She also appears in full Gladiator style garb, when
required, for major battles.
Diana's new star shaped earrings were given to
her as gift from her sister, Donna who used to wear them when she was
Wonder Girl. These new earrings also serve as a transmitter with which she
can communicate with other Superheroes in the Justice League of America.
The Golden Tiara Diana wears was once a symbol
of her station as a 'Princess' - now it simply symbolizes her role as an
ambassador of peace and hope for Paradise Island to the rest of the world.
It is razor sharp and can be used as a boomerang.

Wonder
Woman Theme
Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!
All the world is waiting for you,
And the powers you possess,
In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights,
And the old red, white and blue!
Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!
Now the world is ready for you,
And the wonders you can do.
Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth!
Wonder Woman!
Get us out from under.
Wonder Woman!
All our hopes are pinned upon you,
And the magic that you do.
Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fold,
Change their minds,
And change the world!
Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!
You're a wonder!
Wonder Woman!
